Why an X-Ray?
X-rays use invisible electromagnetic energy beams to produce images of internal tissues, bones, and organs on film or digital media. X-rays can show when a bone is broken or reveal a shadow on the lung. When investigating soft tissues, a special dye might be injected to make blood vessels more visible. Sometimes a similar dye may be swallowed so that the stomach can be examined.
What does an X-Ray involve?
For a private X-ray you would need to remove any metal objects and keep as still as possible for a few seconds. Having an X-ray test is painless with no side effects. Although the X-ray machine uses very small doses of radiation, any risk is extremely small, but always tell your radiologist or physician if you suspect you may be pregnant.
The X-ray pictures will be examined by a radiologist before reporting back to your doctor.
